1840
- 1930 China Doll Bodies
China dolls
came for public sale beginning in the 1840's and steadily gained popularity through the years. Few factories manufactured
the whole doll. Most were sold as parts for homemakers to assemble with materials on hand. A typical china head had
a cloth body stuffed with sawdust. For lucky doll owners, china hands and boots were added. For those not so fortunate,
hands and feet might have been made of cloth or leather.
